BLACKACRE: Occult Detective RPG
It is the year 1910 since the reign of divine king Aklen. Most of the world is carved up by massive empires, such as the naval power of Metropol. One such colony under her reign is the Archipelago of Blackacre. You play as a Traveller, one who came to the isles in search of power, wealth or answers.
The capital city of Newport is filled with chain smoking cockney gangsters. The frontiers of the isles with brigands and hermits. The air trembles as technology and unrest cascade through society. Some have formed secret societies, believing that the isles themselves hold the secret of everything from clairvoyance to life eternal.
Play as in a turn-of-the-century gangster in a noir detective story or venture into surreal horror traversing other planes of existence.
The game uses a self-made fork of the FATE roleplaying game system which utilizes 2d6s. It also incorporates some elements from other forks, such as the “Fate of Cthulhu” game. You can come up with your own attributes, although the character creation system is neatly split into tables you can roll on to create a fresh character in just a few minutes.
Blackacre is an RPG and a world-building project that I’ve been working on and off for a few years now and plan to do so in the future. There’s an expansion or two on the way, although it’s too early to give a date when it should be out. It’s my attempt to create a setting that I can use as a basis for future stories, comics and, possibly, games. The core book is out now, free of charge on Itch.io.
BoNE: Bureau of Necessary Exorcisms
Take the role of a skeleton exorcist recruited into a mysterious organisation. In a world where supernatural creatures coexist within mortal society your job is to make those creatures to bugger off. Banish ghosts, file lawsuits against demons, cause time paradoxes! All of this and more await you as an agent of BoNE!
Play as one of three distinct types of skeleton! The resourceful Lucky Bones are able to reroll any check. The agile Hollow Bones can use their wings to cast death from above. The esoteric Weird Bones use arcane magic to bend reality to their will using one of the 36 unique spells.
Be wary though with the last one. Practising magic without a license puts you in the crosshairs of reality cops or permanently rupturing the space-time continuum entirely.
Currently I'm working on turning it into a zine of about 15-20 pages. I don't want to over-extend the joke, but since it resonated with people, I think it deserves something a bit more fleshed out than a single .png image.
